Kitting
The specifications of a part kit. Each kitting consists of the following:
A list of associated locations (for Location Specific kittings only)
A description (or label) for the kitting
There are three different types of kittings:
Kitting Type
Description
Global
Global kittings are used across all locations. For example, a printer that is kitted with a toner would be a global kitting since the same toner is used in any region. Global kittings cannot be overridden.
Location Specific
Location specific kittings apply to one or a few locations only. In the previous example of the computer part kit, the three kittings listed are location specific and would apply to the locations Europe, Japan, and United States respectively.
Default
Default kittings are less restricted than global kittings. They are generally applicable to all locations, but they can be overridden. For example, a laptop with a specific WiFi card could be valid for most locations, except for one or two because of regulations. In this case, the default kitting can be used and then overridden by a location specific kitting at the exceptional locations.
Each part kit can have one Global kitting, one Default kitting, and multiple Location Specific kittings. For example, a computer part kit may have three different kittings:
1. one with a European keyboard
2. one with Kanji keyboard
3. one with an American keyboard
